A month before she was kidnapped, on December 20, the young woman was attacked and beaten with a frying pan in an underground garage in Richmond Hill, located in the Toronto metropolitan area. It was also alleged that the attackers tried to kidnap him. A man could have intervened, and the attackers would have escaped in a car.

In April, after the young woman was not found, the Ontario Provincial Police broadcast a video call asking for help from the victim’s mother, who lives in Iran. An appeal has also been launched to communities of Iranian origin in the Greater Toronto Area and Montreal for new information.

The day after the video was posted, two men, Riyasat Singh and Harshdeep Benner, were arrested in connection with the Richmond Hill fireplace attack.

Further investigations led to the arrest on Tuesday of Muhammed Lilo of Broussard. He is charged with attempted murder and kidnapping in connection with the Richmond Hill attack, and has been charged with kidnapping at Wasaga Beach.

The 30-year-old was charged in January with criminal harassment of his ex-girlfriend.
