Hair care: the trick to enhancing its color

It is a product that we see more and more often in recent years, and not only in barbershops: There are many hair brands that offer re-pigmentation care (or just called pigments). By combining the active ingredients of the care with color pigments, the latter promises to enhance the radiance of color while caring for the hair.

How does this hybrid product work? We asked Stéphane Pous, colorist and reference expert from Leonor Greyl, to explain The benefit of re-dyeing care whether you have colored hair or notand explained to us the good reactions to its use, as well as the gestures that should not be made.

Repigmentation care, the ephemeral colon option

Re-pigmentation treatment is an ephemeral pigmentation treatment that lasts on average for 3 shampoos. Unlike classic chemical coloring, re-dyeing treatment colors the hair and coats it on the surface, without opening the scales. It surrounds it and settles there like a veil, but it does not penetrate into the core of the hair fiber, which means that it does not change its structure and does not damage it.

“It is sometimes possible for a small part of the product to penetrate inside the hair because it is porous due to it being colored and chemically manipulated,” Stéphane Pous nuance. “The scales are open and the hair will then tend to absorb the product.” But nothing that does not make the coloring durable: Re-pigmentation treatment remains ephemeralIt will simply have a grip that may be slightly longer.

Stéphane Pous asserts that “re-pigmentation treatment is rather aimed at closing the scales”. In fact, In addition to its coloring ability, it is a true treatment with moisturizing and nourishing ingredients to repair, coat and beautify hair. (Except in the case of shampoo formulations which may have a less noticeable nurturing effect than conditioning or mask).

Who is it for?

This treatment is primarily intended for people with colored hair who want to keep their shade intact throughout the days. “I gave As reinforcement when color loses its intensity and/or reflections become distortedOn a daily basis, many parameters can effectively distort color: hair quality, frequent showering, sun, wind, UV rays, shampoo, or even styling products,” explains Stéphane Pous. And it contains alcohol, which is an ingredient that causes the coloring to oxidize in an excessive way”, defines our expert.

Available in several shades, from lightest to darkest, the dye treatment caters to all hair desires, whether you want to bring in highlights, extend radiance or accentuate warm reflections. There are also bright colors like pink, blue, or green, shades that work well on lighter or bleached hair.

When applied routinely, it also ensures longer color stability and therefore color spacing. This avoids treating your hair regularly. A good point when you know the consequences of chemical coloring on hair: damaged lengths, dry and porous hair …

Re-pigmentation treatment, limited efficacy on white hair

In the case of regrowth with a drastic effect or demarcation, the regrowth treatment may not be enough to cover the white hair.

“On the other hand, it can be interesting for people with white hair or natural salt and pepper, who want to avoid unwanted yellow reflexes,” explains our expert. “Then the re-pigmentation treatment works like a gloss that restores the shine.” For a beautiful luminous effect, we instead paint cold blond shades, which makes it possible to get beautiful gray or icy reflections.

Does repigmentation work on undyed hair?

Re-pigmentation treatments are not necessarily intended for color-treated hair. On hair that has not previously gone through the coloring box, it brings beautiful reflections, which easily harmonize with the natural color and skillfully merge with the hair.

Of course, this only applies if you choose a shade close to its original color, an equivalent or a shade above. “The goal of repigmentation treatment is to Reviving a chemical or natural color, but not for hair coloringStefan Boss recalls. It’s just a supplement, and a little bonus for smoothing out his hair. Obviously, using an icy brown or intense brown re-dye treatment on blonde hair to change your hair style is not a thing to do. There is no guarantee that the result will be aesthetic and uniform.”

Good feedback when using repigmentation treatment

Repigmentation care is used immediately after shampoo and comes in place of a conditioner or mask. It is applied to towel-dried hair and should be distributed as evenly as possible to avoid differences in hair shades. “It can be used partially in some special cases, especially if you have styled the hair in the front of the hair,” Stefan Boss adds. Once applied, leave it on for 5 minutes, before detangling your hair and then rinse thoroughly.

As for the frequency, it all depends on the desired result: “Re-pigmentation treatment dyes hair in a fairly subtle way“, warns our specialist.” It may be that on the first use, the display is not intense enough. we can then Repeat the treatment in the next 3 or 4 washes and then leave space between uses. When we find the right light, intensity that suits us, we apply it every 2 or 3 shampoos in maintenance. “Conversely, if the shade seems too intense, it is possible to reduce its depth by mixing the repigmentation treatment with another care cream in doses 3/4 of the repigmentation care, 1/4 of the classic care.

In some cases, regular use can be interesting: “If your hair is very damaged and dry and it is technically difficult to keep the reflectance (especially the warm ones – copper, extra gold, red, eggplant… – which are the hardest to fix), It’s a care that can be done with every wash for a truly perfect result‘, advises Stéphane Pous. Another scenario: If you erase hair and want to remove hair color at any cost, you can also do a re-dye treatment every time… making sure no blue or purple thoughts appear.

Another simple practical subtlety: If you’re using a copper or brown re-pigmentation treatment, it’s best to avoid using a white towel to dry your hair right afterward. Nothing is irreversible, but the treatment may leave some traces on white linen.
