At just 22 years old, Sudanese-born star Adut Akech has already won the fashion world. Estée Lauder Global Ambassador, made her beauty debut. Living from Los Angeles, her new certified city, she talks to us about nutrition and skincare.
Marie Claire: What time do you get up in the morning?
Adut Akech: I’m getting more and more in the morning if I don’t have jet lag. Currently, I wake up between 7 and 8 am. The sun is already shining in Los Angeles and I have no choice but to open my eyes. I immediately pray to thank God. Then I check my messages, calls, and emails before I go to make tea for myself.
Do you go out without makeup?
Yes, when I can, to rest my skin. Even when I go out at night. On the other hand, I am a fan of skincare.
How do you take care of your skin?
With good makeup removal and plenty of hydration. I love Estée Lauder DayWear Sorbet Crème because it has an SPF. Protecting myself from the sun on a daily basis is a two-year related reaction that I don’t compromise on.
Your green beauty crumbs?
At home, I ditched the plastic in favor of bottles. I prefer recyclable packaging.
Do you practice sport ?
I’ve been doing Pilates for a while. A specialty that didn’t particularly appeal to me before but which I really appreciate today.
Do you follow a special diet?
No, because I like food very much. I’ve tried a vegan and pescetarian diet, but now I eat everything except dairy because I’ve been lactose intolerant since childhood. And I don’t drink coffee. Just plenty of tea and water.
What does your hair say about you?
I wore it very short but for a year and a half I let it grow out and protected by braiding it. It is very fragile. So I avoid all sources of heat and also moisturize a lot with specific oils and anti-thirst and nourishing ointments. They’ve also found a better shape.
Do you love your age?
I absolutely do not think about it! So as not to stress myself, knowing that stress is the source of premature aging.
The smells of your childhood?
Cumin, coriander and all the spices my mother cooked when we were in Kenya, where I grew up in a refugee camp until I was eight, and then Australia, where my family later settled.
The most beautiful woman you’ve met?
Always my mom.
