When you spend your life straightening your hair, it is often very damaged. Then we have two solutions: either we cut it all off (for the bravest), or we start the transition of hair or we detox. directions.
For a long time, textured hair – including wavy, curly, frizzy and flyaway hair – wasn’t assumed to exist, according to the Andre Walker Scale rating (easy to find on the Internet). Hair product labels haven’t helped, until recently, as if they meet two categories: on the one hand “regular” (meaning straight) hair and on the other hand…well the rest. Residues are often considered “neglected” when they are not smoothed out. In an attempt to move from the second category to the first category, We abused them (a lot) trying to “discipline” them…
But this was before. “Ten years ago, nine out of ten women straightened their hair. Today, they are just as good at keeping it natural », explains Kelly Masol, founder of clean-textured hair brand Les Secrets de Loly. More than just a trend, it’s a true movement at the crossroads of empowerment and clean beauty. While restoring one’s body and image and detaching oneself from dictates, one turns away from cosmetics that can affect health and pollute the planet. At Newel Beauty, a hair brand targeting these types of hair, let’s talk about it “Beauty Philosophy”. As Olivia Provost, Head of Brand explains: “We are part of an inclusive movement. We must stand up for this positivity and give women the opportunity to take care of their hair by accepting it as it is. And make it a strength, no longer a problem. »
What do you know about your curly hair?
To get beautiful curls, it is good to understand how your hair is formed. The texture of woven hair is not different from that of smooth hairJean-Michel Gaudino explains. But unlike the latter, its implantation at the level of the hair follicle in the dermis is at an angle, which explains this spiral torsion. The result: the hair fibers are flat, not as round as smooth hair. » Its fragility and tendency to break is precisely explained by this inversion of itself. In places where the hair is bent, its diameter is thinner and the scales tend to rise. This makes it vulnerable to external aggressions.
Another important key to understand: Coarse hair is not naturally dry. In fact, the resulting sebum at the root level that is supposed to moisturize the fibers along its entire length, going to the ends, simply does not reach its destination, because the spiral shape of the hair slows down its flow …
How do you get rid of toxins in your hair?
Heavy woven hair is often damaged in these attempts at taming for too long. How do you know you are infected? Just watch closely, after natural drying: if the hair curls from the roots but the ends are smooth, this indicates poor health, as a result of too much stress. So the solution is necessary: capillary transmission. For the more adventurous, there is the “big chop”: everything is clipped, whether flowy or very short, in order to find healthy hair after regrowth. For others, don’t panic, there is a seamless solution.
First, we reduce everything that alters the hair fiber. Since the keratin that is naturally present in our hair does not support heat, we avoid straightening and using other brushes (or use a diffuser that reduces the damaging effect). We also avoid chemical colorants that we prefer their vegetable counterparts, which, by encapsulating the fibers, will coat them. Two components should be completely avoided: sulfates, which attack the scalp and destroy the sebaceous glands. Hair suffocating silicone “makes it” without nourishing or moisturizing it, and it may be attractive on the surface but damaged on the inside.
At the same time, the ends are gradually cut off by 2 to 3 centimeters per month, in order to reduce the damaged lengths as much as possible. We then begin the phase of detoxing, which is also called “hair purification”. Target ? Absorbs the residues of chemical and harmful products resulting (in particular) from chemical smoothing. We use a detoxifying product, often in the form of a mask. and clean? Green clay (preferably montmorillonite) can be used as a mask once every 6 weeks.
